Arsenic Testing – The Latest Addition To Our Kemio Sensor Range
We have introduced a range of arsenic sensors which can be used in our portable Kemio™ Heavy Metals and Kemio™ Multiparameter testing instruments. The new sensors can determine both total arsenic and arsenic(III) and measure in the range of 2 to 250 μg/L.
Our Kemio™ Heavy Metals and Kemio™ Multiparameter systems do not require any specialist training and tests can be performed on-site in minutes. This means a user can test for arsenic across more locations in a single day and conduct source tracing investigations. The Kemio sensor system provides users with a safer test method than many other in field testing options, which often use toxic chemicals such as mercury bromide or produce Arsine gas during the testing process.
Kemio™ Heavy Metals and Kemio™ Multiparameter instruments have been designed for use in remote, areas where laboratory and healthcare infrastructure may be difficult to access.
Arsenic is a naturally occurring heavy metal which can enter ground water when it is released from soil and rocks. Long-term exposure to arsenic can cause cancer and skin lesions, and it has also been associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes and kidney failure.
A number of countries are affected by high levels of arsenic in ground water including India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, China, Nigeria, Mexico, Chile and Argentina. Arsenic contamination is of particular concern where groundwater from wells is used for drinking, irrigation, cooking, and cleaning, and in areas where there is a lack of water treatment infrastructure.
The World Health Organisation’s (WHO) recommended limit for arsenic in drinking water is currently 10 μg/L. However, in many areas, arsenic in ground water far exceeds this level. According to the WHO, millions of people around the world are exposed to arsenic at concentrations of 100 μg/L or greater.
The newly developed arsenic sensors used with with Palintest’s Kemio™ technology will enable governments, water companies, NGOs and communities to quickly identify water sources contaminated with arsenic. Prompt action can then be taken to mitigate the risk.
Kemio™ Heavy Metals and Kemio™ Multiparameter both have an IP67 rated waterproof design and so are ideal for use in wet and humid environments. There is no requirement for laboratory type installation, setup and calibration. No prior knowledge of analysis or training of operators is needed for them to be able to carry arsenic tests.
Kemio™ instruments automatically log test data and store results. This provides traceable and auditable data and simplifies the evidencing of regulatory compliance. Kemio also interfaces seamlessly with Palintest Connect cloud-based data management software.
