Caledonia Water Alliance Enhances Water Quality Monitoring with Palintest’s Advanced Testing Solutions
Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA), a key contractor for Scottish Water, has enhanced the water quality monitoring processes with Palintest’s market-leading solutions namely, Kemio, Turbidimeter+, and Lumiso Chlorine kits across its operations. These solutions are integral to CWA’s mission of ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of clean water to over 2.5 million residents across Scotland.
CWA oversees the design, delivery, and maintenance of essential water network infrastructure throughout Scotland. This includes commissioning new water mains, as well as renewing, modifying, and refurbishing existing networks. A critical aspect of this work involves using chlorine to flush new or rehabilitated mains, followed by rigorous testing to ensure the disinfection process has been successful and that the water is safe for public consumption.
To facilitate this, CWA employs six Palintest Kemio electrochemical testing units, four Turbidimeter+ units, and 13 Lumiso Chlorine kits, allowing its teams to monitor and verify key parameters such as chlorine levels and turbidity effectively. The initial chlorination process involves dosing up to 50ppm of chlorine, which is then flushed out and replaced with clean water to ensure that residual chlorine levels are within safe limits, typically around 0.5ppm.
Jim Allan, Customer Liaison Leader at Caledonia Water Alliance, said: “We’ve been using Palintest products for many years, and they consistently get the job done. The instruments are crucial for commissioning mains and demonstrating to Scottish Water that the water quality is within safe limits. The objective readings they provide are reliable, and our teams find them easy to use in the field. Once all tests are passed, we can confidently connect the water mains to the existing distribution network.”
The Kemio units were selected for their ability to measure up to 100ppm of free chlorine without dilution, crucial for varying field conditions. The Turbidimeter+ is employed during nighttime high-velocity flushing to ensure particulate levels are below 1 NTU, ensuring water quality. Lumiso Chlorine kits provide accurate residual chlorine measurements post-disinfection, analysing water safety before it enters the distribution network. These instruments are valued for their accuracy, reliability, and ease of use, enabling CWA’s teams to operate effectively in challenging environments.
Shaurya Sheoran, Head of Product Management at Palintest, commented: “Our collaboration with Caledonia Water Alliance is testament to the importance of precision in water quality management. The Kemio, Turbidimeter+, and Lumiso kits provide CWA with the tools needed to consistently meet stringent regulatory standards, ensuring that their water treatment processes are both effective and reliable.”
The upsides of implementing Palintest’s water testing solutions allows for more efficient commissioning of water mains. This improvement not only benefits the operational efficiency of CWA but also strengthens the trust between CWA, Scottish Water, and the communities they serve, ensuring that Scotland’s water supply is safe and reliable.
